 | Jean Paul Getty US oil industrialist (12/15/1892 - 06/05/1976) | | Getty was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, into a family already in the petroleum business. He was the founder of the Getty Oil Company. Some calculations say, that he was one of the first persons with a fortune over 1 billion U.S.-dollars. 1957 the Fortune magazine reported, that Getty was the richest private person worldwide. In the 1950s he moved to England where he worked on his 16th-century Tudor estate, Sutton Place near Guildford, until his death. In 1953 he establish in the Jean Paul Getty museum in Malibu, California. |
